According to data from the National Safety Council, about 50 percent of traffic deaths happen at night despite just 25 percent of all driving occurring then. A major reason for this is the inability to see signs in low-light conditions clearly. Internally illuminated street name signs are an excellent way to help improve roadway safety and street name visibility while enhancing the road’s appearance. The SNS series from Signal-Tech is our line of internally illuminated street name signs that feature a translucent, prismatic retroreflective printed face that comes standard in green, blue, or brown. The sign’s graphics and lettering (white highway gothic comes standard) are printed on a second, UV-resistant, 0.125-inch acrylic face panel that displays the sign’s single- or double-faced retroreflective messages. These signs are perimeter-lit with cool white LED modules at a minimum of 105 nits, making them readable in all light conditions. They are controlled directly by the intersection’s traffic control box, but they can be equipped with an optional, built-in photocell if a traffic control box isn’t available.
Signal-Tech's SNS are constructed from a lightweight, extruded aluminum alloy frame painted with low-gloss black. These cabinets are available in two heights (18- or 24-inches — with 16- or 22-inch openings for vinyl faces) and three lengths (72-, 96-, or 120-inches — with 70-, 94-, or 118-inch openings for vinyl faces) and are all 5.25 inches deep. The cabinet uses toolless latches on the sign’s top and external wiring connection points for easy installation and maintenance.
